God Don't Do No Booty Calls!

Deuteronomy 6:15
for the LORD your God, who is among you, is a jealous God and his anger will burn against you, and he will destroy you from the face of the land.

How often do you pray? Really?......... What do u pray for? Is it mostly for selfish gain or for Gods will to be done? As I type this I feel a bit hypocritical because this is an area I struggle with a lot! there are times I will go days, even weeks without praying until something major happens in my life and prayer is my last hope to fix it.

For those who are unfamiliar with the concept of a "booty call" let me try and give you an idea of what it is. There are some people out there who desperately need Gods love and salvation but, instead, to fill the void of love, they take advantage of other people and call them over for an intimate physical encounter.

I know it seems really wrong to even put the two concepts together. There's God all mighty full of grace and perfect in all ways! and then there's the concept of the perversity of the world. But how often do we use God just for our own pleasure? Are we really asking God to strengthen our relationship with Him? or are we trying to look good in front of our friends, pastors, or other religious leaders? Do we really desire to know Gods will in a situation, or are we just out to say "I gave it some prayer and God gave me peace about it"?

God is not a magic genie who we go to for our 3 wishes.  God is not a vending machine and prayer is not a currency.  And just like the example above, God is not some booty call to come over and fulfill our desires each time we pray to him for something that we think we need when really we are just serving our baser desires. (James 4:1-3)

It would be one thing if listening to God was a subjective experience that takes  place in our minds but, that is simply not the case.  God has lavished upon us a Holy Bible that speaks to us in every walk of life and is literally the heart of God being poured forth in ink and paper.

It is amazing the amount of Bibles some people (including me) have in their homes and how little they get used! I don't know about you but I hate being on the receiving end of a one sided conversation where all the person does is talk and you can't get a word in.

Don't get me wrong praying is a good thing and we should all strive to "Pray without ceasing" but I also think that the conversation should go both ways. I think for as much as we like to talk we should also learn to enjoy reading the scriptures. There are answers for all sorts of everyday problems in there. From what God says about His love for you to what God calls sin.

If you would like me to make up a reading plan for you please comment below! I would love to get to know you!

"My Dear Lord,
I can but tell thee that thou knowest
I long for nothing but thyself,
nothing but holiness,
nothing but union with thy will.
Thou hast given me these desires,
and thou alone canst give me the thing desired.
My soul longs for communion with thee,
for mortification of indwelling corruption,
especially spiritual pride.
How precious it is

to have a tender sense and
clear apprehension
of the mystery of godliness,
of true holiness!
What a blessedness to be like thee
as much as it is possible for a creature
to be like its Creator!
Lord, give me more of thy likeness;
enlarge my soul to contain fullness of holiness;
Help me to be less pleased with my spiritual
experiences ,
and when I feel at ease after sweet communings,
teach me it is far to little I know and do.
Blessed Lord,
let me climb up near to thee,
and love, and long, and plead, and wrestle
with thee,
and pant for deliverance from the body of sin,
for my heart is wandering and lifeless
and my soul mourns to think it should ever
loose sight of its beloved.
Wrap my life in devine love
and keep me ever desiring thee
always humble and resigned to thy will,
more fixed on thyself,
that I may be more fitted for doing and suffering."
